Innovation Promotion

Innovation capacity is the driving force behind the country’s growth and competitiveness. A strong interaction between R&D activities and business fosters the dynamics of innovation generation.

Thus with the aim of fully exploiting the innovation potential, developing an Innovation policy and setting international benchmarks, the R&D Group on Innovation promotion is working closely together with various organisations and effectively using synergies to create value and growth. The following technology Innovation Promotion Schemes have been initiated with an objective to promote innovation creation, protection and commercialization.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Promotion Program

DIT’s main objective behind ICT-IPR programme is to facilitate R&D organizations in protecting and commercializing their Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and enable the innovators benefit from their invention in Electronics and IT sector. The activities include technology development, facilitation services and programs to create awareness.The main activities of the division include providing facilitation support to file IPRs of DIT societies and grantee institutes, publish technology alert reports based on Patent Search System, developing IPR tools and databases and support and guidance for IPR related issues in ICT sector.

So far more than 350 IPRs that include 125 Patents, 180 software copyrights, 32 designs and 5 Trademarks have been filed by DIT and 120 IPRs obtained. For 2009, 10 Patents, 12 software copyrights and 12 trademarks were filed. 8 patents were granted in the year thus taking the total granted patents to 20. In additions 10 Trademarks and 12 copyrights were also granted in the year. A few Projects supported in IPR related areas are listed here.
